چکیده
Received ; accepted to be published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters – 2 – ABSTRACT H and K band moderate resolution and 4 µm high resolution spectra have been obtained for FMM#362, a bright star in the Quintuplet Cluster near the Galactic Center. The spectral features in these bands closely match those of the Pistol Star, a luminous blue variable and one of the most luminous stars known. The new spectra and previously-obtained photometry imply a very high luminosity for FMM#362, L ≥ 10 6 L ⊙ , and a temperature of 10,000 – 13,000 K. to the Pistol Star, we conclude that FMM#362 is a luminous blue variable.

To answer the topical question we survey synoptically the recent literature in pulsation theory. We restrict the topics to those which are not dealt with otherwise in this volume. We address research on roAp stars, EC 14026 variables, strange modes, luminous blue variables, pulsation-rotation coupling, and pulsations in compact objects seen from the classical, as well as the relativistic, viewp...

Four Soft Gamma Repeaters (SGRs) have now been identified with certainty, and a fifth has possibly been detected. I will review their X-ray and gamma-ray properties in both outburst and quiescence. The magnetar model accounts fairly well for the observations of SGR1806-20 and SGR1900+14, but data are still lacking for SGR1627-41 and SGR0525-66. The locations of the SGRs with respect to their su...

We report 0. ′′ 5 × 0. ′′ 9 resolution, interferometric observations of the 1.3 mm CO J=2→1 line in the infrared luminous galactic merger NGC 6240 2. About half of the CO flux is concentrated in a rotating but highly turbulent, thick disk structure centered between the two radio and near-infrared nuclei. A number of gas features connect this ∼500 pc diameter central disk to larger scales.

We study the processes of particle acceleration which take place in the field of a rotating black hole as part of a mechanism of formation of galactic jets within the first parsec from the central source, where gravitation is supposed to be dominant. We find the Lorentz factor that a stream of particles acquires as function of distance, when the orbital parameters vary slightly due to a local e...
